DISCUSSION

Our study population of 50 mg Trazodone extended-release tablets demonstrated that they could reduce opioid use. Most patients experienced a reduction in opioid medication (with a median reduction of 70%), which was clinically and pharmacologically significant. All patients who achieved an opioid use reduction were able to do so because they also reduced opioid-using behaviour. Few patients in our study achieved a 100% reduction (with median of 94%), but some these obtained a significant reduction in opioid-using behaviour after they were no longer taking opioids.
